Weekly News for January 14 - February 21
Bishop Palmer Preaching at Main Street One Service Sunday, February 19, 9:00 am Bishop Palmer is here this Sunday, February 19 at 9:00. There will be a slight change in our Sunday morning schedule. We will have one service at 9:00 with Bishop Palmer preaching. We are planning on an hour worship service so that Sunday School will begin at 10:15. However, we have a lot going on this Sunday and the potential is high that we will run over. Since there is no 11:15 service, our plan is that Sunday School can be an hour from whenever it is able to begin. Besides the Sacrament of Infant Baptism for Corbin Matthew Cox, our Lenten Challenge and our Outdoor Worship Center will be presented. Our 8:00 Worship at the UM Village remains unchanged. Jame will be preaching there. This is the Bishop’s fourth visit to Main Street over the last four years. We are honored to have Bishop Palmer back and are quite willing to make Sunday morning adjustments as needed to accommodate his schedule. We appreciate the flexibility and understanding our Main Street family. Community Lenten Service Wednesday, February 29, Main Street will host a Community Lenten Service and Lunch. Service begins at noon with lunch following for $3. Rev. David Crowley from 1st Presbyterian will be our guest speaker. Lenten Challenge Pastors Jame and Nicole, along with a group of our college students, would like to extend a challenge to our congregation during the season of Lent. Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 22 and running through Easter Eve, we want to challenge you to give up all beverages except for water. Then, we'd like for you to collect the money you would have spent on these beverages and donate it to our Clean Water Campaign. On Feb. 19th, we will hand out a water bottle to everyone and ask that they drink the water, cut a hole in the bottle, and use it for collecting this money. Then, on Easter Sunday, we will collect these bottles as part of our Easter celebration. This is being done because we believe that we can help end the Water Crisis in Africa. Just 1 dollar provides clean water for 1 African for 1 year! Just think of how many lives we can save if we all work together! The Water Crisis can be solved in our lifetime if we all work together! If you have any questions, please see Pastor Jame, Pastor Nicole, or Kyle Steward. River Walk Our Clean Water Committee is sponsoring a walk on Saturday, March 3 at 10:00 a.m. We will walk from Main Street to the Mississippi River to collect water and walk back. Our walk is intended to dramatize the walk for water that nearly 1 billion people of our world take every day. Often the water they find, is no cleaner than the Mississippi River. Come join us. Thirst T-Shirts As part of our Clean Water Campaign, we are selling Thirst T-Shirts, designed by Kyle Steward. These are not just for Thirst participants, but for all members. The message of the shirt is clear - Jesus bring us living water so that we may never thirst again. And we are using these shirts to help bring clean water to Africans. The cost is $15, with all proceeds being donated to our Clean Water Campaign (through UMCOR). A picture of the shirt will be out on Sunday. Bring your $15 and sign up for a shirt! We'll order them at the end of February. Missing Balcony Keys There are 2 balcony keys which have been missing from the key box located in the work room off the church office for several weeks. One of them is on key tag #43. The other is on a key tag that is marked “extra balcony key” or something similar. If anyone knows the whereabouts of them, could you please contact Shelly in the church office, 462-2495, or put them back in the key box. Thank you! Summer Camp Camping season is just around the corner! Don’t forget to meet with Mrs. Chris to get your child’s spot reserved for this summer at Little Grassy. Parents are welcome to attend as chaperones, too. There is even a family camp that Pastor Jame will host. Spaces are limited so early registration is a must! Elevate Sponsors Needed As we plan to kick off our second season we are in need of qualified sponsors. Please pick up an application from Kathy Abert or Pastor Nicole. All applications are due by February 26. Communion Servers Needed During Lent Each Sunday during lent we will be serving communion.
