Haiti Earthquake Response

Main Street is responding to the Haiti Earthquake in two ways:

First, we will be receiving a special offering for emergency relief. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is already on site and offering help and assistance. UMCOR is able to respond to any international crisis within 48 hours. In fact, three of our mission executives were in Haiti prior to the earthquake. Their motel collapsed during the earthquake and they were buried in the rubble for 55 hours before being rescued. UMCOR is there. As with all emergency UMCOR offerings, 100% of the funds raised are used for emergency relief. Nothing is taken out for administrative expenses

Second, we are collecting items for personal care kits. UMCOR has a standard kit of basic care essentials that they give out following a disaster. We are hoping that you will take this list and purchase these items and bring them to church on January 24. Or, you can take the list and select one or two items and purchase several of them. Please make sure all items are correct sizes. If they are not the correct size they are unusable. Bring them to church in bag and we will get them to the Midwest Distribution Center in Chatham.
